Research Around the World

Early childhood Education is a rapidly developing field in America.  many aspects are being researcher now, and things are changing.  This is not just an issue in America, this is the case all over the world, especially in Australia.  I chose the website because of its similarities to NAEYC.

What are some of the current international research topics?

Australia and America are similar in many of their concerns and topics of research.  A few of these that I found similar are:

  • Learnign and Teaching through play
  • Respecting Diversity
  • Childhood Obesity
  • Building Relationships to Strengthen Learning
  • Child's transistions and school readiness
  • High quality care: staff:child ratios, educated staff required to get a degree

What surprising facts/insights/new ideas about early childhood did you gain from exploring this international early childhood website?

I liked the idea of having a website where you can network with other care providers, share ideas and learn from each other.
There is also a few links to many resources a professional or even parents can utilize.  There are books that are suggested, and a link to a magazine entitled “Every child”
I also love how they are incorporating the technology of the internet and providing links to RSS feeds regarding early childhood topics.

What other noteworthy information did you find on this website?

I was drawn to the website because of its mirroring the NAEYC standards that we have in America.  The website itself was easily navigated, full of information and organized in a nice way.

I also read over the article, “Our Future on the line”.  It was great and discussed how the field of early childhood is changing so much over the years, and how important it is that we keep teaching these children at a young age.  There are focuses on the demand for ratios to be examined, such as 1:4 for birth to 24 month children.  They face the same resistance we face in America, with costs going up and poor wages for workers in the field. (Cahir, 2011)

I found this article wonderfully written and could see many similarities such as:
  • Importance of ratios
  • Importance of quality elarly childhood care
  • Importance of highly qualified caregivers: staff must have a degree to be a teacher in the childcare setting

To touch close to home, the article even gives a case story of Georgia.  Georgia is a 3 year old in the center and the focus is on her mothers appreciation for the caregivers and the high quality care her daughter receives.

    Cassie,
I choose the same web site. Is not it amazing that the research topics are similar as well as the articles in the magazines have the same kind of information?
This is a great web site full of valuable information and easy to navigate. I really enjoyed reading the information. It seem that I spent too long reading one after the other.

    Cassie,
Thanks for sharing....very interesting and noteworthy information regarding websites. I also have to agree that our education system is changing so rapidly and as I think back to when I was in the firt grade and what I was doing and then to see the work my first grader is having to do just amazes me.

Cassie early childhood education is growing really fast not only in america but all over the world. You picked a good topic and did very well on it. No matter what country a child is in I believe they all have about the same differences that Americans have and probably some of the same similarities also.
