What insights have you gained about research from taking this course?
There is more to research then just the simple, pick a topic of interest and do some interviews, observations and data collection. I gained insight into the basic difficulty some researchers have. That is, choosing a topic and fine tuning it down to the point it is no longer a broad subject.
In what ways have your ideas about the nature of doing research changed?
My ideas have changed as I discovered many more subjects I want to research, or read reearch on. This class helped me learn how to read research correctly. I also learned the importance of triangulation, having more then one type of research, or investigator looking at the same subject and comparing what was seen or gained.
What lessons about planning, designing, and conducting research in early childhood did you learn?
I learned lessons that there is much to know about doing research in early childhood. A researcher needs to be sure their study is ethical, that the risks are low, and that the research is valid.
What were some of the challenges you encountered—and in what ways did you meet them?
I was very new to doing research, and reading research. The best way I meet these challenges was by utilizing the text, the articles presented in the resources, and finding my own articles to help understand topics. There were many things I did not know, and some of the papers, where we choose topics to define, I chose topics I was unfamiliar with so I could gain a better understanding of them.
What are some of the ways your perceptions of an early childhood professional have been modified as a result of this course?
I dont feel I had any thing modified. I am only 2 years into the early childhood profession and had many things still to learn, and I will still have many things to learn. I am sure once I become more comfortable with topics, I will begin to have perceptions, and have these perceptions challenged.

Hi Cassie you reflected very well on the topic of research because there is more to research than just picking a topic and doing surveys. I have enjoyed this class with you and all of my other classmates see you in the next course.
Hi Cassie,
I think most of us were in the dark regarding the research process before this course. I agree Cassie, we learnt not only that there is process to do a research but there is a way to read research as well. We learnt alot togather within eight weeks. I appreciate your sharing of wisdom. Wish all the best for the next course and hope to see you there too.
Cassie,
You have brought so much inspiration and insight into your discussion and blogs during this term. I couldn't agree more that research isn't just choosing a topic and conducting research.
Cassie, you reflected very well on the topic of research and I agree with you that it was a challenge to break a broad topic down into a simpletopic. However the triangulation part of the research was fascinating to me and I learned a lot also. I have enjoyed this class with you and perhaps we will move on into the next course together. It has been fun.
I agree with you that research can be a difficult undertaking there is so much detail that goes into the planning and design and even in choosing the participants. I have gained an appreciation for the work that researchers undertake.
