Relationship Reflection

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle." -Plato

Relationships are vital in life, and while you might not have an indepth relationship with everyone you meet, everyone you meet will have an impact on your life, whehter it is only for the day, a few weeks, or a life time.

A list of people I have a positive relationship with:

The co-workers at my childcare center.  We need to have a positive working relationship and maintain a steady amount of communication for the center to run smoothly.  They have also been very helpful throughout my first few classes at Walden, the supervisors were offering me advice and suggestions for articles to look at and different centers to visit for observations.

I feel I have a posivive realationship with the families in my classroom.  I keep an open line of communication with each family, and give them a good report of what their child had done during the day.  I feel this is very important for the development of the child.  Together the parents and I can work to help the child learn and be educated.

My best friends, the ones ive known since high school.  I remember growing up, having lots of friends and someone telling me that if I still had at least 3 of those friends in adulthood I should be considered lucky.  I am.  Alecia, my best friend, is now one of my colleagues.  Our center needed a teacher and I suggested the position to her.  She applied and was hired.  We have a great working relationship as well as a relationship outside of work.  While at work we can be colleages and critical of each other.  I feel it takes a special relationship with someone to be able to have different styles, working vs personal.

My boyfriend Jim, we will be together for 4 years in September and he has supported me though my decsions to return to school and get my masters.  He also is my sounding board for ideas I have in class.

The realtionship I have with my family is a good one.  They give me my space to work on the things I need, and were very supportive when I decided to return to school.  I talked it over with them and they supported my decision.

I also want to mention the relationship I have with my colleagues at Walden.  Many of you have been in both of my classes thus far, and have offered great advice, feedback and support.  It has been wonderful having someone to discuss ideas with, and to receive feedback.

The best way to maintain any relationship is through open and honest communication.  It is important to be clear when building relationships to understand what is imporant and what each relationship brings to each person.  It is important to understand the benefits you will get out of each relationship and how you will benefit the other person.

My experience in relationships helps me as a professional because I learned how to understand my own biases and how to determine the benefits of each relationship and how I can make the other party understand what I bring to the relationship

Hello Cassie,
It is important to have a positive relationship with your co-workers. This will help everyone to get along with each other, and create a healthy learning environment. The parents and children will have a greater chance to grow and develop in a positive learning environment.

Cassie, thanks for the quote. You are blessed to have kept friends from high school and really blessed to be working with one of them. Experience communicating honestly with your best friend and colleague does allow you expertise in forming relationships with others espcially our clients.
