I enjoyed reading your post. It brought back memories about how I use to play different card games growing up too. Old Maid was one of my favorite cards game. Playing outside was a natural time for us. However, children today can not be left along playing outside because of the danger of being kidnapped by mean people. It is our mission to help our children to learn how to play be. Through play, our children can experience how great it is to develop and learn.
I agree that our children nowdays have lost the desire and creativity that we had as children. We had the time, space, and freedom to explore our world. While I agree that it can be a much more dangerous world for children today, our generation often preferred outdoors to the video games, where as today...I feel that the preference would be opposite! Thank you for sharing the pictures that brought back some great memories!
I have read your posting and it is very interesting that the games that were are familiar back when we were going up seems to be much more creative and imaginative but today the presents of play in the lives of young children focus on video games.
I enjoyed reading your post it was the same for me when I was younger. We played outdoors after getting home from school until dark or dinner time. My parents did not worry about me back then. Your post brought back memories about the card games we used to play. I had forgotten about those. You don't see the children of today playing cards. I guess they play them on their video game computers.
Cassie- Oh my goodness I remember that little peoples garage. And the bell would ding as you turned the crank to make the cars go up the elevator! Isn't it funny that the things we did required no batteries, didn't "do anyhting" except what our imaginations made them do. Sometimes I wish the chidlren in my class could experience that.

Cassie your quotes have captured the heart of this week's lesson. Play is a must in a child's life in order to become a well rounded person.
